BOS / Business Operations System
From client intake to mortgage operations
When a business process lives in spreadsheets, messages and disconnected software, writing another form is only part of the task. I connect the data, rules and responsibilities behind it. My BOS work in an existing mortgage company linked a client-facing website to document handling, staff tasks and Encompass exchanges.
Start with entities, document relationships, participants and transition rules. Separate what can be configured by staff from the invariants the code must enforce.
Conditional questions and steps determine the required documents. Automation creates linked tasks; OCR can populate document fields. Permissions and history make responsibility explicit as work moves between participants.
Agree which system owns each record and status, preserve external identifiers and handle failed exchanges. In BOS, Encompass remained part of the operational flow rather than being replaced wholesale.
Configurability is valuable when workflows change, but it adds validation and permission complexity. I would first establish where an existing platform is sufficient and where a custom module is justified. BOS is a concrete implementation, not a claim that any business can run unchanged on it.

Describe one process, the systems involved and the most expensive manual step. A sample of the workflow is enough to start; confidential customer documents are not needed in the first message.
